Snow Days

I'm looking out my window at the blowing snow wondering how I'm going to get a run in today. There's not much snow on the road, the plow just went by, but I figure it will be wet going now. If I wait until later everything that's wet now will be frozen! I could take a day off but I've run in these conditions plenty of times. Sometimes I just run laps in my neighborhood. The advantage of this option is that there's hardly any traffic. I know in a couple of back and forth laps I can get a six miler in that includes some up and down hills. I've run this route at night as well. It's pretty cool with the Christmas decorations out. Normally I could also opt for the short drive to the Dunes State Park and run Trail 10 out and back for six miles. Since it's not really frozen yet my guess is the trail might be a little wet but not bad and Trail 10 will be sheltered from the wind. However today is the start of the second two day deer cull so the park is closed. I've run laps at Dogwood Park around the parking that rings the softball and soccer fields after dark. This is a better option after the weather has calmed down since it's pretty exposed./ The Prairie Duneland Trail will get plowed eventually after a snow so it's a good option to stay off the roads. I also have run the roads in Dunes Acres but this can be fairly hilly. They plow their roads and the traffic is light. I run from home but I could park in either lot for Cowles Bog to start these runs. I could always run on the treadmill at the YMCA but that's usually a desperation move for me! If your'e going out today or any day when the footing is marginal remember to point is going to be to get miles in, not run anything fast! Be creative! I think I'll wait until this after noon!
I saw the Valparaiso Turkey Trot results and Matthew Streeter's result from Footlocker. Looks like it was a real mud fest in Kenosha! I updated the results with those times. Let me know if I missed you. Looks like Lucas actually PR'd at the turkey trot!
